Rotterdam Faves: Green Delight

I’ve never had a cafe or bar where I was a regular, somewhere people know me and I could drop by just to have a quick drink – that is, until a few months ago. I’m very happy to say that I’ve found such a place in Rotterdam: Green Delight!

My therapist’s office is around the corner and I started going there for my ‘breakfast’ (aka coffee!). What drew me in was the artwork on the window (done by the same artist as my tattoo!) – and what kept me coming back was Emily’s friendly smile, the good coffee and the very comfy and welcome feeling inside.

Green Delight has become a Rotterdam Fave for a more personal reason: therapy is hard and often sucks – usually, after crying for an hour I just wanted to go home and sleep for the rest of the afternoon. However, one day I decided to head back for lunch… and have been going back most weeks since then! Since I’m usually in an extremely anti-social mode after my therapy sessions, it was pretty unique that I felt safe here.

Of course, I wouldn’t share it as a Rotterdam Fave if the food wasn’t also great – they really don’t disappoint! Green Delight is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a great tea and cocktail menu to boot! The cuisine I would describe as Asian fusion, with delicious Japanese pancakes for breakfast and a Buddha bowl for lunch. Look no further if you are interested in great vegan food! The majority of the items on their menu are vegan, as are often the baked goods. Not everything is vegan (they have options) – but the ones that are are so good, I don’t even miss the meat (which is something coming from this meat lover….).

The cake and pies… these alone are an excellent reason to pay them a visit SOON. Every time I’m there the display is full of yummy cakes and pies. I have to admit I can never resist a slice of something after lunch. Neither has any of my friends I have brought along! Recently a book corner was installed where you can borrow books from the Bored to Death book club, and find a comfy spot on the couch or chairs. They also renewed their G&T menu, which boasts great names as ‘Pink Panther’ and ‘Rasberry Ripple’.

In summary…

It’s not as if you need an additional reason to visit this delightful place, but another reason I love them is their commitment to sustainability. They are consistently thinking about how to reduce save energy, lower their environmental footprint and reduce food waste. Overal, Emily and Rallen have really created a unique place, with great food, an inviting atmosphere and a creative community around it all!
