I think I can manage to say “I love tacos” in four/five languages…so you could say I really love tacos. Unfortunately I have never been to Mexico, so I am always on the look out to find a good Mexican restaurant in Rotterdam. In the Spanish language center Café Cultura in the Hoogstraat, the previous taco bar was taken over by KUA Taco Bar, which has a ‘mother’ restaurant in the Hague – KUA Mexican Kitchen.
I had already been to the previous taco bar La Taquería, which I liked, but found sometimes lacking in service and atmosphere. Having heard many positive stories about KUA in the Hague, I was excited when I heard KUA was taking over La Taquería in Rotterdam! We visited on Thursday with a few friends and did our best to try most of the tacos on the menu.
The space has been redecorated, with fantastic tropical wallpaper, a new tiled bar and a beautiful mural on the wall (main photo above)! Also, lots of plants have been added, giving the space a warmer and more welcoming atmosphere. It had been a tough day at work, so I have to admit that maybe even more than the tacos, at this moment I was looking forward to a nice margarita cocktail! The margaritas did not disappoint! I’m not an expert, but they were the perfect balance between sweet and sour, with a good punch to it!
Kua Taco bar also has many other items on their menu, but I concentrated on tacos – small enough to try different flavours. We had the nachos and guacamole first, which was delicious and super fresh. Nice chunks of avocado and lost of fresh herbs <3! I tried three tacos: the pulled beef (mouth watering & my fave), steak and poblano corn one. They were all good, but I could have had three more of the pulled beef (Barbacoa) tacos!

My friends enjoyed their tacos as well (we had a lot of overlap in choices) and also tried the refried beans and Mexican rice. It was all really good and fresh, and I have to admit the service was better as well! I would definitely recommend it for a relaxed dinner with friends, catching up over food & drinks. Just watch out for those margaritas, their strength will sneak up on you!!

Opening hours: @Hoogstraat 28A, Wednesday – Sunday, 17:30 – 23:00
- Fiery FYI: a single margarita costs €5.95, and a (half) pitcher translates to €6.12 when divided by number of glasses they say you’ll get out of it. Save that for more tacos! 🙂
